Iraq War Veterans Honored

Three soldiers were honored by two service clubs on Tuesday upon their recent return from the Middle East.

Major Susan Arnold, her husband, Lt. Col. Hank Arnold and U.S. Marine Julian Cortez were named honorary Rotarians at a joint Rotary/Soroptimist lunch meeting.

Susan’s parents, Gloria and Don Escallier of Los Banos, are respective members of Soroptimist and Rotary. During her periodic leaves, the soldier often served as guest speaker for club meetings, giving first-hand updates on military happenings.

In turn, Rotary and Soroptimist clubs showed their support by organizing soldier letter writing campaigns, care package drivers and other projects Susan felt would be helpful to deployed soldiers.

During their first leave since returning to the U.S. from Iraq, the couple took time to share their current overseas endeavors.
