Football Banquet Will Feature Talk By COP Grid Coach
The Los Banos Rotary Club annual Football Banquet next Tuesday night in the Fairgrounds Exhibit Building will feature a talk by Jack (Moose) Myers, athletic director and head football coach at the College of the Pacific in Stockton.
His appearance here is being arranged by co-chairmen Emil Erreca and Sid Roe. The dinner will honor the 87 members of the high school varsity and lightweight football squads, their coaches and managers.
Eleven members of the varsity squad and two lightweight players will receive miniature gold footballs as graduating seniors. The outstanding players trophy will be presented by Joe C. Cardoza, proprietor of Del Mar Jewelers.
Special guests will be the fathers of the 13 seniors. Other guests will be members of the Lions and 20-30 Clubs, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The dinner, prepared by Mrs. Rose Gagliardi, will be served at 7 p.m.
There will be accommodations for others wishing to attend and reservations can be made with Roe or Erreca.
Myers was the youngest head coach in the nation at a major college when he was appointed to the COP post in 1953 at the age of 28. He has played professional football with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams, following his grid career at UCLA. He was an all coast fullback on the Bruin 1946 Rose Bowl team.
He performed for the Eagles in 1948-49-50 and played in 1952 with the Los Angeles pro team.
He is touted as a top ranking banquet speaker and newspapers report no one "has a bit of difficulty hearing his booming voice."
Gilbert Mendonsa is varsity coach and Doug Pederson coaches the lightweights.
