Gustine, Los Banos Teams Feted By Rotary Clubs
Members of the Los Banos and Gustine football teams were given a gala dinner in Gustine Monday evening at the high school cafeteria.
The dinner, an annual affair intended to cement good will between the two towns, was preparatory to the Los Banos-Gustine football game tonight.
Howard Hughes, president of the Gustine Rotary Club, was master of ceremonies at the dinner, which was attended by nearly 100 Rotarians.
After the dinner, L. J. Spindt, Los Banos high school principal, gave a short talk emphasizing the fact that football is only a game, and that there should be amicable feelings between players after the contest ends. Spindt expressed the hope that the Los Banos-Gustine grid rivalry could continue on its present friendly basis for many years.
Spindt then introduced Carlyle Loftin, Tiger coach, who said that his teams did not play for "blood." Loftin explained, however, that they played hard.
Principal Henry Newhold of Gustine was then introduced and in turn introduced the new Gustine coach, Bob Brian. Brian thanked the Rotarians for the dinner and their efforts to promote good feeling between the two towns.
Tom Montegani of Gustine played the accordion during the evening, which concluded with the showing of a Cleveland Brown-S.F. 49-er football game film.
