Local Scout Will Receive Eagle Award At West Side Recognition Dinner
David Juarez, of Los Banos Scout Troop 86, will be among three West Side Scouts to receive the Eagle Award at the annual Scout Recognition Dinner of the Yosemite Area Council, West Side District, this Saturday evening at the Fairgrounds exhibit building.
The dinner, open to the public will be served at 7:00 o'clock, and will feature a talk by Golden K. Driggs; general manager of the New York Life Insurance Co., in Fresno. Driggs is a certified life underwriter.
Eagle awards will be presented by Wally Hetherington of Chico, who is a key figure in the growth of the Boy Scout movement. He is the holder of the Silver Antelope, an honor award for meritorious service throughout the region.
Present at the dinner will be the two Los Banos troops: Troop 85 sponsored by the Rotary Club and Troop 86 sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.
Other Scouts who will receive the Eagle Award, the highest honor scouting can bestow on a boy. Are David Tyler and Charles Mears, both of Troop 81 in Patterson.
Dinner tickets may be purchased from Leonard Clover, Los Banos district commissioner, or Manuel Calderon, troop committeeman, and are priced at $1.75 for adults and 75c for children.
Theme of the dinner is "Our Best Today – For a Better Tomorrow." Driggs is expected to follow this theme in his talk.
The evening will open with massed color presentation by color bearers from each of the troops in the West Side district.
The Very Rev. Thomas J. Morahan, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, will give the invocation and the benediction.
John Amabile, mayor pro-tem of Los Banos, will welcome the group on behalf of the city. Group singing will be led by Hetherington.
Wilbur Linville of Gustine, district chairman, will conduct an election of officers for the West Side district.
The troop in the district winning the annual advancement award will not be revealed until the dinner. The award will be presented by Harold Moffet of Gustine, advancement chairman.
Special awards to adult Scout leaders will be presented by Clover. These awards are presented annually to outstanding leaders in recognition of their work during the year.
Master of ceremonies will be Frank Soares of Patterson, a radio announcer for KTUR.
The dinner will feature roast beef, spaghetti and tossed salad. Dinner chairman is Frank Orr. The Los Banos Junior Chamber of Commerce will set up tables and chairs. The ticket chairman is Don Robinson of Newman.
Troop 81 of Patterson will conduct the closing ceremony.
