"Oscars" Given To Rotarians
Frank Peluso injected some humor into the Rotary Club luncheon Tuesday noon with presentation of several "Oscars" to deserving members of the club. Explaining that the trophies were necessarily inexpensive "because I paid for them myself," Peluso first presented President Mack Wheat a nice tasty all-day sucker to keep him quiet; then called the several honorees to the front to accept their trophy in true Hollywood style.
Ernest "Shorty" Toscano got a box of "Pep" for sleeping through the most programs. Mike Dambrosio got a kewpie doll for his performance as chairman of a recent ladies night program. Bob Puccinelli got a free jar of mayonnaise for the Canal Farm Inn dining room in recognition for his work on the Rotary food committee. T. D. Toscano got a wooden Dodo bird as the only trophy he was able to win during the year as baseball chairman. L. R. Hillyer drew a celluloid swan in recognition of his work as fellow committeeman on the baseball deal.
Louie Castellucci and Ken Anderson drew a pair of pottery elephants for having remembered the high school football season long enough to arrange for the annual football dinner. Bill Raznoff carried away the booby prize for having arranged the two programs on one day after having gone through a period of scarcity. Bill disclaimed credit for the latter award, however, giving due credit to his predecessor in office.
The boar dof directors came in for their share of acclaim, too small wood miniatures of "corn" liquor—as a sarcastic reminder that they neglected to provide proper and fitting Yuletide atmosphere for the annual pre-Christmas dinner program.
Previous to the fun hour, F. E. Buck, past president, officially introduced and welcomed into the club a new member, Dick Keffer, manager of the Hammond Lumber Company.
