Rotarians Hear Musical Program
A musical program of exceptional excellence was presented for members of the Rotary Club Tuesday noon by a chorus of 40 high school boys and girls under the direction of Mrs. A. P. Machado. Featured numbers included the solo presentations by Donald Criswell, the talented whistling of Floyd Hughes of the song "Over the Rainbow," and the stirring patriotic rendition of "This Is My Country," by the entire chorus, which concluded the program.
A comedy skit by Donald Escallier, Jimmie Pernetti and John Mevi concerning the trials and tribulations of a football coach, merited hearty applause.
Preceding the program, City Clerk Mike Dambrosio reported briefly concerning his recent attendance at the League of California Municipalities at Los Angeles, where the major subject matter was municipal financing and ways and means of increasing taxes at the city level in event Proposition No. 1 is approved by the voters at the November 7 election. Passage of the Proposition, Dambrosio declared, would mean a net annual loss to Los Banos of at least $19,000, which would have to be made up somehow by increased taxation from other sources and by increase in business license.
