Rotarians Hear Of Prison Camps
A recorded talk telling of the life and emotions of American marines and civilians who were captured by the Japanese on Wake Island at the beginning of World War II and existed as prisoners of war during the war years was given to Rotary Club members Tuesday noon by Kenneth Smith, proprietor of the Los Banos Locked Service.
Smith was one of the men captured on Wake, and one of the few who survived the four years of imprisonment.
The talk was a sequel to a previous record recording presented to Rotary Club several weeks ago, which retold the defense and eventual surrender of the island . . . an epoch that is one of the highlights of American bravery and endurance in time of war.
