Los Banos Rotary Club History
Service Groups To Cooperate In Red Cross Drive

Jos. A. Enos, chairman for the 1948 American Red Cross Drive in Los Banos, states that a different method of conducting the annual drive will be tried this year within the memberships of the local Rotary and Lions clubs. Enos is asking that the members of both groups fill out their contribution check and bring it with them to the next meeting, where they can be picked up within a matter of a few seconds. Thus a substantial portion of the city drive can be accounted for in a day, and it will save personal solicitation of the hundred or more local business houses that are represented in the membership of the two clubs. It will also relieve the business man from being interrupted from his work by the personal visit of a fund collection.
In talking to many of the individual club men since the plan was announced, Enos states that nearly all of them are enthusiastic ever such a plan, and feel that the general response will be excellent.

Several of the larger plant and store managers will be asked to take Red Cross receipt books and receive contributions from their own employees. Advance responses from some of the fraternal organizations and societies indicate that support from such groups will be equal to that of past years, Enos states, and many have indicated that their contributions will be in as soon as the drive officially gets underway.

Chairman Enos and Jack Duarte, rural chairman, have planned a rural committee meeting at the American Trust Co. Monday evening at 7:30, and are asking that the following men be present: Sam Spina, Ralph Bove, John Freitas, Manuel Cardoza, Tony Lewis, Rank Garcia, Joe Fialho, George Costa, Edward Fagundes, John Monez, Albert Gastambide, Frank Arburua, Joe Furtado, Louie Pamplona, Manuel J. Almo, Silvina Miranda, A. G. Furtado, John Marques, Joe C. Deniz, Constantine Gomes, Joe Sarmago, Enos Baptista and W. H. Sloan.

It is the belief of Enos that the drive can be completed in a matter of days this year. It is also pointed out that almost half of the total amount raised this year will remain in the local chapter for use of the people in our community.
