Banos Rotary Club History
Tells History Of Sportsmen's Group
B. A. Wilson, president of the Los Banos Sportsmen's Assn., Tuesday noon gave members of the Rotary Club a brief outline of the organization's accomplishments and aims. Incorporated less than three years, the Association now has assets valued at $14,552.38, Wilson said, most of which is represented in real estate and improvements at the club grounds north of town. Membership has increased many fold in the brief period of the club's existence, with 967 paid up members last year.
He told of plans for the new pheasant rearing project now underway at the grounds by the state, and stated that a minimum of 4,000 pheasants would be raised here during the 1948 season. Most of these birds, Wilson said, would be released throughout the West Side, from Firebaugh to Crows Landing. Wilson told of the work involved in securing the state-sponsored project, and praised the efforts of Senator George Hatfield and others for their interest and loyalty.
He also announced plans for a Ham and Bacon trop shoot, to be held at the club grounds early next month. Events for both rank amateur and near-professional gunners have been arranged, together with other less exacting but equally pleasurable games wherein hams and bacon might be garnered for the family larder.
The annual election to replace retiring members of the Rotary board of directors was held immediately prior to Wilson's talk, and resulted in the election of Robert Reis, M. D. Wheat and Gene Pappani. Each will serve for a term of two years.
