Traffic Patrol Boys Are Feted
The eighteen members of the Los Banos Junior Traffic Patrol, their leader, John Torre, Chief of Police R. H. McSwain, and State Highway Patrolman Neil Nicholson were guests of the local Rotary Club at luncheon Tuesday, where the leaders explained the work that the boys are doing and complimented them for their community service.
The Junior Patrol boys are organized to direct automotive and pedestrian traffic at busy intersections near the schools during the noon day period when the streets are overflowing with school children returning to their homes. They work on a purely volunteer basis and are on duty each day of the school year.
Both McSwain and Nicholson expressed to the boys their personal thanks and appreciation for the week they are doing in the prevention of traffic accidents, and pointed out that in the years the Junior Patrol has been organized there has not been a single serious injury of a school student.
"If your Patrol can save but one injury or life," Nicholson told the boys, "your work during the school year will have been more than worth while."
O. R. Zentner, who welcomed the boys and introduced their leaders, spoke briefly concerning traffic conditions generally and the need for increased vigilance on the part of the motorist to avoid accidents.
