Los Banos Rotary Club History
Lions,
Rotarians In Battle Royal
The members of the
Lions and Rotary clubs are holding secret “skull practice” sessions
this week, endeavoring to outwit Old Father Time and organize softball teams that
might have some chance of weathering at least one full inning in an all-rookie
softball game to be played at the elementary school field next Tuesday evening.
The game developed as several of the lesser tame Lions issued a challenge
to Rotary that was accepted before the more staid Lions could voice their objections
to such an exhibition. As a postmortem feature, the winning club will later be
honored with free tickets to a joint Rotary Lions dinner.
As neither
club could field a presentable softball team it has been agreed that each club
must play at least 25 members during the contest, which will grind along for 7
innings or two hours whichever is the less painful. It is further stipulated that
no player remain in the game for more than three innings. Sam Benidettino and
Vern Halstead will be in charge of the Lions Club aggregation, while Ernest Toscano,
T. D. Toscano and Louis Castellucci ride herd on the Rotary gang.
The
game will start at 7:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as sufficient players can be
impounded. The public may gather around to watch the grusome spectacle if it so
desires.
