Fete Rotarians At Steak Dinner
The Lions Club
members were hosts Tuesday evening to the Rotarians at a barbecued steak dinner—the
payoff for a softball game played several weeks ago. The dinner was served at
the fire department club rooms and was under the supervision of Joe Ebner and
a capable corps of assistants.
Sam Spina, president of the Lions, and
Bert Loosmore, president of the Rotary, took turns in trying to impose law and
order during the brief program that followed the dinner, but eventually gave up
and let the group enjoy a song-fest that made up in volume what it might have
lacked in tonal quality Pianist Henry Bove and accordionist Joe Manduca at times
had difficulty in keeping the accompaniment stepped up to the tempo of the songsters.
Lion clubber Ed Parsley presented the Rotary Club with a perpetual trophy
as their reward for winning the ball game and insinuated that the Lions would
take possession of it after the next game. The trophy, made in the Parsley &
Jose garage has a substantial redwood base and a chrome plated pedestal on which
is secured a regulation softball. The name of the Rotary Club is engraved in the
chrome as the first winner.
Only grumblings of dissatisfaction came
from T. D. Toscano, who, as Rotary sergeant-at-arms, found after the meeting that
again someone had made off with the Rotary gong. The Lions Club gong also disappeared
during the meeting, but Lion detectives found it soon afterward in the automobile
of one of the Rotarian guests.
