City Taxes To Rotarians
City Clerk Mike Dambrosio
Tuesday noon gave members of the Los Banos Rotary Club a brief resume of the city
finance picture as it will exist for the next fiscal year, and stressed the need
for additional funds if the city is to provide all of the services being demanded
by the citizens.
Explaining that the antique tax basis for municipal
governments is limited by state statute to not more than $1.00 a year per $100
valuation, Dambrosio said that new tax sources were needed to provide additional
funds. Installation of parking meters, he said, would be one means of obtaining
additional revenue. Another way would be a city sales tax such as is now being
collected in Los Angeles.
G. P. Maushart, Rotary member who has been
absent for the past four years serving as a Commander in the U.S. Navy, was welcomed
back into the fold by President Bert Loosmore. Maushart re-opened his legal office
in this city Monday morning.
